When a Tooth Has to Go, We Do It Right

Honest answers, precise care, and a plan for what comes next.

Tooth extraction

What to Expect From an Extraction

If you're here because another dentist told you a tooth needs to come out — or because something has been hurting long enough that you already know — you're in the right place. A tooth extraction isn't a failure. It's sometimes the most honest clinical decision available, and at Aultman Dental Leeds, we don't recommend one unless we mean it.

Before anything happens, we take a complete look. That means full diagnostic imaging — including our cone beam CT when the case calls for it — so we understand exactly what we're working with before we touch anything. No guessing. No surprises mid-procedure. The diagnosis comes first, and the plan follows from it.

The procedure itself is designed around your comfort. We take numbing seriously — you'll be adequately anesthetized before we begin, and we won't rush that part. Most straightforward extractions are shorter than patients expect and far less dramatic than what anxiety tends to build up in advance. Surgical extractions, including impacted teeth, are handled with the same methodical care, and we'll walk you through exactly what your case involves before we start.

Aftercare instructions are clear and specific — not a generic printout, but a real conversation about what to expect in the days that follow and when to call us.

Here's what matters most: an extraction is not the end of the plan — it's a step within one. Once a tooth is gone, the surrounding teeth and bone begin to shift. We'll talk about what that means for your specific situation and what options exist to address it, whether that's an implant, a bridge, or something else. You'll leave with a full picture, not just a healing socket.

"Great place. Great staff. I fell and chipped my teeth on vacation. I called first thing monday morning and Lori got me scheduled the same day. Dr. Kilgore was quick to fix the problem and now it’s like you’d never know my teeth were broken. I’m very thankful for their help and everything they did for me!"
